NBN here to stay, no matter who wins | The Australian: "IT may be too late for Stephen Conroy, but his National Broadband Network policy has now won clear bipartisan support, with Tony Abbott almost effusive in his praise of the network in this week's public forum."

Investigator Lecture 2013
Investigator Lecture 2013: "Many children are now growing up immersed in technology, with teenagers leading the advance into a 24/7 digital lifestyle. Much of our children's communication is now online, their leisure and entertainment is increasingly provided by the internet and video games, and they often seem inseparable from their mobile phones. Some press articles suggest we are facing an unprecedented crisis in which 'the human brain ... is under threat from the modern world'. Dr Paul Howard-Jones, Reader in Neuroscience and Education, presents the current evidence on technology’s impact on human well-being, and particularly the brain. Flinders University’s Investigator Lecture is its pre-eminent public lecture of the year. Matthew Flinders’ ship, the Investigator acts as a metaphor to embody the ideals of the University – innovation, forward thinking and the importance of providing intellectual space."

Lasting legacy: Nelson Mandela's evolution as a strategic leader
Lasting legacy: Nelson Mandela's evolution as a strategic leader: "The life story of Nelson Mandela is well known, and has elevated him to the level of such widely recognized heroes as Mahatma Gandhi and Mother Teresa. There is indeed much courage, sacrifice, wisdom and nobility in his life -- attributes that demand our deep respect and have much to teach us.
What is less well-known is how Mandela evolved into the kind of strategic leader who, from prisons on Robben Island and elsewhere, helped to bring genuine democracy to South Africa. For example, while isolated from his fellow prisoners by force, he steered secret government meetings toward the abolishment of apartheid and free elections. Subsequent to that, he became the country's first democratically elected black president."

Facebook Hashtags – What Do They Mean For Brands? | Shrushti Blog
Facebook Hashtags – What Do They Mean For Brands? | Shrushti Blog: "Last week saw Facebook announce the introduction of clickable hashtags. Similar to the use of hashtags in both Twitter and Instagram, users will now be able to click on a hashtag and view the conversation that surrounds it. The development comes after Facebook admitted that there is a need to link conversations taking place on the platform. Previously, several million users could be talking about the same topic – a blockbuster film or a news story – yet there was no way to link the conversations. It’s hoped that this update will improve the usability of the networkand encourage visitors to spend longer on the platform, rather than leaving to join a conversation that’s taking place on Twitter, for example."
